Nitrogen deficiency (N)

Nitrogen deficiency causes pale, yellowish-green plants. Symptoms first show on older, lower leaves, beginning on leaf tips and then progressing down the midrib. Shoot and root growth are inhibited; plant growth is stunted.

Nitrogen supply is determined by stand density and the soil’s Nmin-content. In order to prevent nitrogen leaching it is advisable to use partial, multiple nitrogen applications. This is important for lighter, sandy soils, as these are particularly threatened by nutrient leaching.
